What is an Employee Assistance Program (EAP)?
SAPTA promotes positive relationships within the workplace by delivering professional counselling services for Employee Assistance Programs on behalf of a number of organisations and employers.
An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential counselling service offered by employers to their employees to support their well-being in the workplace and in their personal lives. Depending on the employer’s arrangement, EAP may also extend to immediate family members.
SAPTAs’ EAP service offers initial support and assistance to individuals and groups of employees who have personal and/or work related issues that may impact on their well-being, work performance, safety, individual and workplace morale and psychological health.
EAP counselling is aimed at assisting employees to:

Trauma Management Services
SAPTA can also provide a high level responsive critical incident service following workplace incidents, accidents, workplace deaths and associated trauma. SAPTA understands the need for a timely response when critical incidents arise and offers significant experience in working with trauma across a range of organisational settings.
This can include personal crisis intervention support, early intervention and assistance to individuals and groups of employees where long hours, workplace stressors and other factors can give rise to events which are life threatening or cause risk to personal, emotional or physical safety or wellbeing.
Manager Hotline Support and Advice
SAPTAs’ services include hotline support to assist managers and leaders in managing more effectively in the workplace. SAPTA can assist with the varied issues that may arise for managers such as performance management of staff, having difficult conversations with employees, interpersonal and team conflict, leading change management, supporting teams through challenge and improving team functioning.
As part of the EAP, the employer will pay for an agreed number of confidential counselling sessions delivered by SAPTA. Depending on the particular arrangement with your employer, (please check with your manager, supervisor, or human resource officer) appointments may be made in either of two ways:
- Supported Referral: A manager, supervisor or work colleague may recommend or encourage you to seek assistance for a particular issue you may be facing. Whether you accept this advice or not is your personal choice. If you wish to follow through you can contact SAPTA on +254724511709
- Self Referral: Appointments can be made directly by simply telephoning us.
Please Note: The counselling sessions for employees are confidential. When matters arise that have serious implications for the workplace, or the safety or wellbeing of yourself or others, non-identifying feedback may be given to your employer.

Wellness Programs
What is ‘Wellness Program’?
An employer approach to improving employee health, wellness programs include activities such as company-sponsored exercise, weight-loss competitions, educational seminars, tobacco-cessation programs and health screenings that are designed to help employees eat better, lose weight and improve their overall physical health.
Besides improving employee productivity and decreasing sick days and leaves of absence, all of which reduce operating costs, wellness programs may be able to lower an organization’s health insurance expenses. Employees can also benefit from wellness programs through lower health insurance premiums, decreased out-of-pocket medical expenditures and an increased sense of well-being.
Corporate wellness programs offer a variety of scheduled programs, such as stress management seminars that address everything from sleep to work-life balance to financial health; cooking classes; healthy recipe exchanges and fitness challenges. Other components of an effective corporate wellness program might include healthy vending machines and cafeteria offerings. Healthy and appealing food might also be served at meetings and included in company-provided overtime meals.
SAPTA offers the following Wellness Programs:
- Anger Management Course
- Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
- Smoking Cessation Program
- Diabetes management programs
